Tips From The Expert

For any of the A.D.D. readers out there looking to cut to the chase and really simplify their car detailing efforts, shop any or all of the products from the list to the right. These represent a simplified approach to the necessary points of proper car paint care, and all these products will produce superior results!

As the expert, let me see if I can add some tips and information to help you become an educated consumer and car owner. Car ownership doesn't come easy! But the reality is that most of us sign on to car ownership without much instruction on proper cosmetic car care and maintenance. So follow below as I lay out some important auto detailing tips to protect and maintain that new car of yours!

  • Simple and regular car washing, vacuuming, and waxing, is 95% of the battle for a car that will last year after year, and look beautiful doing it.
  • It can be basic; wash your car weekly, and wax every 2-4 months for protection.
  • Just like any other subject of life, because we neglect consistent maintenance, we are then faced with making up for lost time which appears overwhelming, and therefore we do nothing; so pay close attention to these car detailing tips.
  • car detailing tips
  • Dirt and sun are the worst things for your cars finish.
  • The more your car gets of both, the more you will need to wash and wax.
  • Hosing off your car with the garden hose because you don't have time to wash it correctly, is worse than allowing the dirt to remain; water spots can often become a permanent part of your paint, chrome, glass, etc.
  • "Sliding" into your car can wear the surface of your upholstery off; it is better to "place" your body into driving position.
  • Conscious awareness of your feet while exiting and entering your vehicle will save your door panels, speaker grills, etc., from damage.
  • New cars do not come with wax already on them, and no, the dealer will not have done it for you.
  • Yes, you really can neglect your cars paint for 2-3 years and see no visible consequences; but past that, and you will be struggling to make up for lost time.

Car Detailing Tips for the Interior

  • Don't take anything into your car that can't be removed with cleaning/shampooing; like colored foods and drink. These colored items will almost always stain your interior.
  • The dye's from your clothes can and will stain the light interior fabrics and leathers; generally a problem for the women out there that wear the dark denim jeans.
  • While the rumor suggests that Armor will crack your dash, I have yet to see it happen.
  • I am not a fan of using any dressings in car interiors.
  • The first and most critical thing you can do for the interior is keep it vacuumed, and keep it clean; this means all interior materials.

These basic and essential new car detailing tips will help any car owner; new or old.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax

Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Wax is a spray detailer and wax all in one. Use as a stand alone wax after using the clay bar, or to enhance and refresh any wax already on your paints finish. This product is so easy to use, and very light in consistency, I actually use this as a Quik Detailer; this way I am also getting added wax protection and enhancement each time. Recommended for any dark colored cars after washing for added depth and glossing. Ideal for hot climates, as can be used in direct sunlight on hot paint.

Griot's Garage Micro Fiber Cloths

If you are new to micro fiber, you are in for a big treat! These amazing wonders have completely replaced the ageless staple of baby diapers as the universally accepted tool for wax removal. So versatile, you will find many other uses for them also. I simply reserve a number of these cloths for wax removal only.

Water Sprite Chamois

The exact chamois I have used professionally for over twenty years; still the best! I like this over-sized version that I cut in half; one half is reserved for freshly washed cars, the other half for dirtier jobs like wiping door jambs. Simply hose out with pressure when they get dirty. All the benefits of natural chamois, with none of the drawbacks! An absolute must for every "Driveway Detailer".

California Car Duster

One of my personal favorites and an absolute must! Whether you are a die hard enthusiast, or someone looking to just keep their car looking great with minimal effort. Enhance the love affair with your car and extend the time between washings by using the proven California Car Duster.
