Just like every other area of car care and auto detailing products, there exist almost an endless amount of choices. I find that too many choices leaves many people feeling overwhelmed to the point of stalemate. For this reason I limit my reviews to popular brands that not only perform, but are actually available. As consumers we are in a winning position as many quality products exist today, that were not available before. This means getting superior results is not only possible, but easier than ever!

I have long been a fan of Mothers products; it was Mothers California Gold cleaner wax that was my very first choice in wax products a hundred years ago. (yes, that was grossly exaggerated) This clay bar kit is perfect for the weekend warrior and enthusiast. I would even recommend this to the professional just starting out into the world of auto detailing.
Darren's Tips
Staying competitive is paramount to success with running a mobile auto detailing business. Finding ways to save time and money are always at the top of a business owners list. Out in the field we use a Water Sprite Plus® Chamois as a means of keeping the bar lubricated during use. Simply place the clay bar underneath a dampened chamois, and rub away; the chamois keeps the paint wet at the same time you are rubbing.

It is hard to go wrong when choosing anything put out by Meguiars. Detailing and Meguiars go hand in hand. Their kit also contains two individually wrapped clay bars perfect for the driveway detailer. Unlike the Mothers clay bar kit, this one by Meguiars includes a small sample of their cleaner wax that can be used following the clay bar process.
Darren's Tips
I like the fact that these kits contain the spray detailers, as this gives you a chance first hand to try additional products put out by both these companies. I have used both kits and all the products contained in these kits; you wouldn't go wrong with either one of them. The cleaner wax included with the Meguiars should be enough to do a couple of light colored cars. The cleaner wax certainly works on all paint types, but if you are working on a dark paint, I recommend using a quality paste wax instead as your final step after claying.

Not nearly as well known by the average consumer, but widely known by auto enthusiasts and detailers, Pinnacle has long put out quality products. Similar to the above kits, the Pinnacle clay bar kit comes with a much bigger, single piece of clay for use. Because there are so many quality products on the market these days, finding the perfect fit for you will often come down to the subtitles of a particular product.
Darren's Tips
Most of the manufacturers advise you to spray a little of the lubricant on the clay bar before storing until next time. Personally, I have never done this and actually make sure mine are dry before storing. If you are using during excessively warm weather conditions and your bar becomes sloppy, soak in ice water a few minutes and this will firm it back up.

Wolfgang product line offers yet another choice in quality car detailing products; their clay bar combo is no exception. This kit comes with a single larger piece of clay and spray lubricant. It also comes with a quality Cobra micro-fiber towel that can be used over and over. Most manufacturers understate the durability of their clays in attempt to sell you more product sooner than later. While most clay products claim to give about 4-6 cars worth of use, I personally find that much more use is possible.
