Waterless Auto Detailing
Answers behind the confusion

 expert mobile car detailing

Waterless auto detailing is more to do with waterless car washing than actual waterless car detailing. Since washing a car is typically part of the detailing process, the term is often misused and ends up creating further confusion to people who are unfamiliar with the process. As a professional auto detailer, I have been using this method of washing and detailing long before the industry caught up with dedicated products that we have today. Follow along as we dissect this area of auto detailing together.

Waterless Auto Detailing

Having been in the auto detailing business now for over 20 years, I have seen many trends within car detailing come and go. Waterless car detailing is gaining more and more traction as a viable alternative to traditional car washing methods. Despite its ability to save time and effort, the "going green" movement that has become so politically correct drives this technology faster and further than other trends have done in the past.
Let's work through some of the misconceptions and rumors of this new and often confusing area of auto detailing.

Waterless Auto Detailing Q. and A.

Q. What exactly is waterless auto detailing?

A. Simply put, waterless means just that; waterless. Waterless deailing is simply replacing the traditional process of washing a car with soap and water, with a stand alone product you spray onto your car that acts to break down, and emulsify the dirt so it can be safely wiped away.

Q. Why was it developed?

A. The development process has been a natural result of detailers from all over needing to get from point A to point B quicker, and with better results. Washing cars with gallons of water is time consuming and wasteful. Add to this the "going green" movement of conservation and ecological friendly products, and you can see why the concept is gaining so much traction in popularity. Waterless auto detailing is a concept that is all about expediency.

Q. Will the waterless process scratch my paint?

A. Not if done correctly. Through marketing and advertising, we have been lead to believe that car paint is overly sensitive. There is much hype surrounding the delicate care and treatment necessary of car paint. The reality is that car paint is very durable and resistant to scratching if a certain amount of common sense is applied. When thinking of the waterless car wash process, it is helpful to compare it to dusting fine furniture in your house; you wouldn't drag that piece of furniture in the driveway and proceed to soak it with gallons of water and soap. Spraying with some form of furniture polish and wiping down is not only easier, but better for that piece of furniture.

Q. So waterless auto detailing is really more about waterless washing?

A. Yes. As part of the detailing process, the removal of superficial dirt is necessary before any polishing or waxing of the car paint can take place. So waterless detailing should really be more appropriately named waterless car washing.

Q. What advances have they made to these waterless car wash products?

A. Now many products exists that are multi-purpose products like waterless wash and wax products that do just as the name implies. Now you can combine the car washing and car waxing into one easy step.

Q. Do I recommend this as a professional?

A. Yes! I have been employing the different methods of waterless auto detailing and waterless washing long before any of the dedicated products existed. I use this methods both professionally to deliver better results in shorter times, as well as personally as I rarely use water to detail my own cars.

Q. I think I understand the process Darren, but do you really think I should use it?

waterless auto detailing

Q. Absolutely! I have yet to see anyone go back to traditional methods of car washing once they have adopted the waterless auto detailing methods. The added bonus of saving much time and energy is that you are left with a finished product that looks like you have just spent hours washing and waxing your car with the traditional and outdated methods of car washing and waxing!

Q. Which waterless car wash and detail products do I recommend professionally?

A. Let me answer that by stating that any form of liquid, from water to cleaners, can actually be used as waterless washing products. Any form of liquid that aids in breaking down surface dirt would officially be effective to remove superficial dirt. This could even be as simple and rudimentary as wiping your paint down with a wet chamois or rag. It really depends on the reason you are performing the waterless wash methods with regards to the end results. Let's break this down even further so you can adopt and apply this methods in your own world.
